POIEMA SUZUKI ACADEMY

Crafting the Masterpiece Within:
Where Brain Science Meets Musical Creativity & Mastery

Fulshear’s Premier Sanctuary for Early Childhood Brain Development & Musical Artistry

Poiema [ποίημα, POY-eh-mah]:
Ancient Greek for "that which is created; a masterpiece of workmanship."

A Message from the Director:
When I envisioned planting Suzuki Talent Education at Poiema Academy in Fulshear, I didn’t just see a school for violin and viola instruction. I saw a ‘Neurological Greenhouse’ — a nutrient-rich environment where the architecture of the brain is protected and encouraged to grow to its greatest potential. At our Academy, we believe the word Poiema suggests a workmanship or masterpiece in progress. Here, that masterpiece isn’t just the music; it is the character of the student and the strength of the community surrounding them.
~ Sharon Neufeld, Founder & Director

"If a child hears good music from the day of his birth and learns to play it himself,
it develops his sensitivity, discipline, and endurance. He gets a beautiful heart."

— Dr. Shin'ichi Suzuki

Success is built on a high-integrity partnership between the Teacher, the Parent (the Home Teacher), and the Student. We don't just teach children; we equip families.

Expertise Rooted in Science & Artistry
As the founder of Poiema Suzuki Academy, Sharon Neufeld brings over 34 years of mastery in Suzuki Talent Education to the Fulshear community. She is dedicated to the intersection of neurological development and musical mastery. With extensive research into the 90% window—the critical period before age 5 when brain architecture is at its most plastic—she has designed Suzuki Talent Education at Poiema Academy to be a sanctuary for cognitive and character growth.
A Philosophy of Potential
Ms. Sharon believes in the core Suzuki pillar that "Ability Develops Early." Her approach goes beyond traditional music lessons, focusing on:
  • The Mother Tongue Method: Treating musical acquisition with the same natural immersion as language, ensuring students "hear" their vocabulary before they play.
  • The Partnership Model: Empowering parents through the "Suzuki Triangle," where the parent, teacher, and child work in total harmony.
  • Synaptogenesis and Neural Migration: Capitalizing on the brain's natural "pruning" process to strengthen executive functions like focus and emotional control.
At Poiema, we don't just teach the instrument;
we utilize the discipline of stringed instrument study
to craft the Masterpiece within every child.

Watch the progression from a 4-year-old beginning student in her very first recital to advanced students of varying ages performing with the professionals!
